LAIKIPIA

KENYA

Budget : Premium Safari*

"OUT OF AFRICA"

Black leopard territory

A land of contrasts between high plateaux and rocky hills, Laikipia is one of Kenya's most unspoilt and exclusive sanctuaries. As well as the Big 5 found on most of the immense conservancies of the Laikipia plateau, there are also animals endemic to Northern Kenya: the Grevy's zebra, the reticulated giraffe, the vulturine guinea fowl, the Somali ostrich, the Gerenuk and the beisa oryx. On the plateau, open plains dominate, allowing lions and cheetahs to thrive, while lower down - beneath the rocky, euphorbia-filled ridges - leopards and striped hyenas have the advantage of camouflage.  Some of the private properties also have one of the largest populations of black and white rhino in Kenya and offer excellent photographic opportunities of these endangered animals.

It is also one of the only regions in East Africa where wild dogs can be seen. These endangered animals have large ranges and therefore need a lot of space to hunt: this totally open region lends itself perfectly to this.

But above all, Laikipia is one of the only places in the world where you can see one of the continent's most sought-after animals: the black leopard. Mysterious and elusive, this fascinating feline makes this region a unique destination in the world for photographing this extraordinary animal.

An exclusive destination and a wide range of activities

Some properties offer safaris on horseback, on foot, in 4x4 or even by helicopter, unforgettable encounters with wildlife, nights under a starry sky in a bush camp... A trip to the heart of Laikipia is the promise of total immersion in unspoilt nature, far from the crowds, where every moment reveals the raw, unspoilt beauty of Africa.

The ultimate destination for wildlife photographers!

Dry season

January to March

The intense heat transforms the landscape, and water becomes a precious resource. Animals gather around the last watering holes, providing spectacular scenes of species interaction. Predators take advantage of this concentration to hunt more easily. It's a perfect time for safaris, with excellent visibility and ideal conditions for spotting Laikipia's emblematic wildlife.

Rainy season

April to May & November to December

The rains bring the Laikipia landscape back to life, painting the savannah in vibrant shades of green. This period is ideal for observing the births and breeding behavior of herbivores. Wildlife is more dispersed, taking advantage of the many resources available, and predators remain active. For photographers, the soft light and striking contrasts offer unique opportunities to capture the region's natural beauty.

Cool dry season

June to October

Cooler temperatures make for pleasant days and invigorating nights. Sparse vegetation improves visibility, making it easier to observe large herds and predators on the move. This is also the period when young animals born at the beginning of the year begin to emancipate, bringing a fascinating dynamic to savannah scenes.

In short...

For total immersion in an unspoilt wilderness sanctuary, where vast plains, steep hills and winding rivers mingle, Laikipia is an exceptional destination. Here, exclusive safaris on foot, on horseback or in 4x4 vehicles take you to the heart of spectacular wildlife: elephants, lions, wild dogs, rhinos... and the legendary black leopard, an appearance as rare as it is fascinating. It's a place where adventure can be experienced at close quarters with nature.

Testimonials

Your feedback is my greatest source of pride.

Valentin was our guide for over three days in Laikipia - and what a treat! Not only is he an excellent guide with a particular interest in the region's leopards, but he's a photographer's guide who seriously took my photography to the next level.

Wheatcraft M.

Valentin is a great professional, deeply in love with this wildlife. With my friend and cameraman Bixente, we followed him on the trail of the black leopard, as part of a report for TF1. He gave us the chance of a lifetime to see it. A souvenir for life. And if you like photography, he can advise you on how to find the best angle, adjust to the light, and take your shots.

Pinatel S.

Our safari with Valentin was just incredible! Extraordinary visuals, both for the animals and the landscapes, with the added bonus of having the beautiful Giza in our sights several times 📸
His experience in photography is a real plus; always good advice for the composition of the photos, for our settings, the positioning of the vehicle always well thought out and impeccable, in any case a huge thank you to him 🙏🏼
